5 Ways to Honor the Men and Women Who Protect Our Freedoms

Posted by on

The 4th of July holiday--a day we give thanks for our independence and freedoms--is just a few short weeks away.

Most people spend this holiday hosting BBQs or attending parades. And, there’s certainly nothing wrong with that.

However, at Lucky Grooming, we believe that we should also be giving back to the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedoms.

For that reason, today’s post is going to share 5 ideas on how we can support active military members and vets this 4th of July and throughout the rest of the year!

Check out what we recommend…

#1 - Visit a Military Memorial Ground

Every day, men and women die fighting for our rights.

Yet, in the midst of pool parties and fireworks shows, we often forget that people have laid down their lives so we can live freely and enjoy those things.

This year, we recommend that you carve out some time to visit a military memorial to honor those who have served.

Visiting a memorial ground is also a great learning opportunity to teach children about how the military works and what brave men and women do every day to keep us safe.

#2 - Volunteer at a Shelter for Veterans

According to NCVH.gov, there are over 40,000 homeless veterans in our country.

This is awful--especially considering that these vets were willing to put their lives on the line for us.

Thankfully, there are a lot of wonderful shelters available for veterans. But, these shelters can’t do everything by themselves.

If you're able, I encourage you to donate your time, money, or other resources to help a veteran shelter in your community.

From washing sheets to serving meals, anyone--from small kids to senior citizens--can lend a hand!

#3 - Invite a Military Family Over for Dinner

Sometimes the best way to say “thank you for your service” is to offer a military family an invite to share a warm meal with you.

After all, what’s better than making a new friend over delicious food?

This year, ask around to see if there are any vets or military families in your community (if you don’t already know one).

Then, extend an invitation for them to join your 4th of July BBQ or just a regular family dinner.

Easy as that!

#4 - Participate in a Community Charity Event for Vets/Military

This time every year, there are usually military/veteran charity events that are open to the public.

Best of all, these events are a lot of fun!

We know from personal experience as we recently participated as a sponsor for the Run for Sam 5k Memorial Day Run.

It was really special to honor our military friends and family who are no longer with us.

We are also excited to sponsor a wonderful young man named Connor who is participating in Mission 22 to help prevent Veteran suicide.

During the Mission 22 charity event, Connor will be walking 22 miles with a weighted vest.

Find out more about this honorable young man’s mission here..

#5 - Send Thank-You Cards to Military Members/Veterans

Last, but certainly not least, we recommend that you take the time to write out a thank-you card for the active military members and veterans in your life.

The card doesn’t have to be anything crazy.

A simple, heartfelt thank-you is more than enough.

In fact, you don’t even have to buy a card! Just grab some paper and write a meaningful note to the special military members in your life.

We promise, it will mean the world to them.

As always, we know that WE are the lucky ones. And we want to thank each and every service man and woman for what they do for us each and every day.

We will never be able to repay you for your sacrifice.

Thank you.

We wish you a wonderful holiday filled with much gratitude.
